This was version 2. MeV really lacked any way to communicate depth. As a solution I tried switching to R, in this case using the package scatterplot3d. There were a number of nice features, like including a 3d box to enclose the plot, and the “pegs” that could help indicate height off of the plane created by PC1 and 2. The downside is it looked pretty busy, and that is with the data labels removed. The color coding has also changed to something less primary and horrific.
