This wasn&#8217;t too bad, but  it was hard to position the point of view such that the yellow cluster didn&#8217;t look like it was close to the red or green cluster. In theory the &#8220;pegs&#8221; should have made that clear, but they are the last part of the grap to be interpereted and aren&#8217;t always intuitive to people. scatterplot3d only allows you to rotate around a single axis, and it was tough getting an angle that really illustrated the difference in position. This was something I fought with for a while. <\/p>\n<p>One solution was to try a simple animation (at least for powerpoint talks), adjusting the viewing angle back and forth. scatterplot3d wasn&#8217;t the best solution for this, since all frames of the animation were redrawn and various chart features would cause the axes to rescale or image to resize depending on viewing angle. <\/p>\n<p>The animation looked terrible, and it still left us with the problem of how best to display the plot in the publication.<\/p>\n"},"caption":{"rendered":"<p>This version is virtually identical to #2, this time with some of the chartjunk removed to make a cleaner image.
